Mercedes-Benz unveiled a newly designed GLC-Class in June that we will see introduced for the 2023 model year and again the nameplate will offer a high-performance version enhanced by AMG.
We’ve already seen a prototype for the next GLC 63 and today we have a new spy shot of a prototype for the next GLC 43.
The GLC-Class has grown a bit with its recent redesign, perhaps giving the recently launched GLB-Class some breathing space and added space. The small crossover is based on an updated version of Mercedes’ MHA (Modular High Architecture) platform that underpins the current GLC-class, saving weight through increased use of aluminum on steel.
These GLC 43s should arrive at the dealership at the same time as regular crossovers, while the GLC 63 range-toppers may be delayed by six months to a year. The exact time of arrival of the new GLC-Class in the United States has not been announced.

We know that this prototype is for GLC 43 because the back has four round exhaust tips. GLC 63’s prototype sported square-shaped exhaust tips, a signature design cue of AMG’s top models.
Both the GLC 43 and GLC 63 are expected to adopt turbocharged 4-cylinder engines. Yes, get ready to say goodbye to V-8 on GLC 63.
The GLC 43 should have the same 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 and soft-hybrid combo that is available in the redesigned C43. The setup features an electric turbocharger design similar to that found in Formula 1, and it’s good for a maximum of 402 hp. The light-hybrid setup can add a temporary 13-hp boost to high-load situations.
In the case of the GLC 63, this model should adopt a sophisticated plug-in hybrid powertrain depending on the same light-hybrid setup as the GLC 43, but capable of adding up to 201 hp to add an additional electric motor to the rear axle. Total output is about 643 hp. The new setup, characterized by the new E Performance branding, has already been previewed by AMG and will soon debut in a redesigned C63.
