The V-8 makes way for the electrified 4-cylinder

Mercedes-Benz unveiled a newly designed GLC-Class in early June that we will see in showrooms as the 2023 model, which includes high-powered GLC 43 and GLC 63 AMG guises. A prototype for the new GLC 63 has just been spotted.

For the redesigned GLC 63, the V-8 will be replaced by a state-of-the-art plug-in hybrid powertrain that relies on a 4-cylinder engine for its internal-combustion components. The new setup, characterized by the new E Performance branding, has already been previewed by AMG and will soon debut in a redesigned C63.

The 4-cylinder is an upgraded version of the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 available in AMG’s current compact car. Thanks to the addition of an electric aided turbocharger, the output from the engine for the GLC 63 will be increased to 442 hp. There will also be an electric motor in a light-hybrid configuration along with the power-related features of the engine. Serve as a starter motor.

On top of that, the rear axle will have a more powerful motor (up to 201 hp) to take the combined output to a maximum of 643 hp. This rear motor will be combined with its own 2-speed transmission. A battery with a capacity of 6.1 kWh will ensure a small electrical range.

In the case of the GLC 63, the GLC 63S E is expected to save a maximum of 643-hp images for the performance range-topper. A Temar GLC 63 E can have around 550 hp of performance, which is still significantly higher than the 503 hp of the outgoing GLC 63S.

Another upgrade we can both wait for the redesigned GLC 63 variant will be the all-wheel steering.

The redesigned GLC-Class is expected in showrooms later this year. Look for the GLC 63 variant about six months after the regular crossover launch. The new GLC 43, which is out of the test, should arrive at about the same time.
