The slicker-looking Haval H6 GT crossover is now here in July

The fast-growing Chinese brand GWM is preparing to launch a new body style for its Haval H6 medium-sized SUV, and the first shipments are currently on the water.

The GWM Haval H6 GTAs mentioned, other so-called coupe SUVs have a sloping roof line, such as the Primo Audi Q5 Sportback and BMW X4, as well as a more aggressive nose design, and new tails with spoilers and two exhaust exits.

The GWM Haval H6 GT was supposed to be already here, originally signed with a quarter of the 2022 launch, but the launch was delayed in July due to production delays.

“After initially scheduled for a Q2 launch, the H6 GT was delayed due to global supply chain restrictions but GWM was able to start mass production in May so that this sporty new model could join the existing Haval SUV range from July.” A company spokesman said today.

The Chinese-spec Haval H6S – the name of the home H6 GT – was released in August 2021 and was detailed in September 2021. We saw it filmed for a TV commercial near our Melbourne office in January 2022.

The H6 GT joins regular H6 and more recently launched H6 hybrids in the company’s growing line-up, including the smaller GWM Haval Jolion SUV and GWM Ute.

The GWM Haval H6 GT will use the typical H6’s 150kW 2.0-liter turbo engine with a seven-speed DCT, but adds performance updates like the Brambo brakes and Michelin tires.

The H6 GT shares most of the interior bits with the regular H6, including a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen, but also adds a “sports seat” and various cabin trims.

The wheelbase of the crossover matches the normal H6 at 2738mm, but all other dimensions are increased: length 74mm, width 54mm and height 5mm.

GWM Howell said standard safety equipment would include pedestrian and cyclist detection, AEB, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, and lane-keep assistance.

Despite stock issues – like other brands – GWM is showing strong growth in Australia in 2022: it sold 6117 cars by the end of May, up 11.4 per cent, making it the 17th top-selling brand right behind Honda and LDV, but Audi , Ahead of Volvo and Renault.

With 2057 sales YTD, GWM Haval H6 is the company’s second top-seller after Jolion (2462), and has a 2.9 percent market share of the huge ‘medium SUV below $ 60,000’, dominated by Toyota RAV4.

GWM Howell Australia said in a press release, “With record sales of the H6, the H6 GT is expected to be a popular addition to those who want a sporty SUV experience while retaining the space and functionality offered by more traditional SUVs.”
