More gas-powered vehicles are coming from Akura, in spite of one Automotive News (Subscription required) The report states that the Acura Integra hatchback, launched for the 2023 model year, will still be the brand’s final launch for a car equipped with an internal-combustion engine. The story was reported based on an interview with Emura Korkar, assistant vice president of Acura national sales, but the brand denied AIts conclusion.
Acura spokesman Andrew Quilin shared a statement revising the record. “The Autonews The articles mentioned are speculative, and not based on definite plans or statements. While we can’t comment on future product plans, the recently launched 2023 Integra will not be the last new ICE car from Intura. Acura will play a key role in Honda’s transformation into electric vehicles. In fact, as we announced last fall, Acura American Honda will lead the transformation of electrification and digitization. It all started with a brand new fully electric Acura SUV coming in 2024. ”
In terms of Acura’s product cycle, such as the RDX compact crossover and the TLX mid-size sedan, switching to battery-electric powertrains will be extremely difficult. Both are due for an update in the next few years, and we look forward to continuing with the gas engines.
However, Acura is moving towards electric cars. In a separate interview with Corkor Automotive News Launched last December, Acura is committed to electric vehicles and will avoid launching additional hybrid vehicles as it converts from gas to battery power.

Honda Electric flagship sports car teaser
The transformation will begin early in the 2024 model year when Acura will launch an electric SUV that General Motors will have available on its Ultium platform 2022 GMC Hummer EV and 2023 Cadillac Lyriq. The parent company will also launch an SUV for the Honda 2024 based on the Ultium platform. Honda (and possibly Acura) has planned the EV based on its own e: architecture platform starting in 2026.
In addition, we may see an electric NSX in the very distant future. Acura boss John Ikeda confirmed plans for a third-generation NSX last summer when Acura launched the 2022 NSX Type S to mark the end of the run of the current second-generation model. His comments at the time suggest that the next NSX will be powered by something other than a distinct internal-combustion engine like the first-gen car and a hybrid setup like the second-gen car.
Honda has since teased a pair of electric sports cars, one of which has been described as a “flagship” model (shown above) and looks like a mid-engine supercar. The other car seems to feature a front-engine rear-wheel-drive sports car ratio and could consequently act as a spiritual successor to the S2000.
Update: This story has been updated to include a statement from Acura and to revise the record that Integra will not be the last car to be launched with a gas engine.
