A newly designed BMW M2 based on the latest 2-Series coupe will be unveiled soon, and when it does, it will come with a dash design with a floating screen that will simultaneously enter the rest of the 2-Series coupe range.
The latest 2-Series coupe came on the market last year as the 2022 model and currently has a traditional hood above the instrument cluster in its dash and a separate screen for the infotainment hub.
However, on the BMW website in certain markets, the configurators for the car show the new dash design. The screenshot below shows a pair of floating screens, taken from the website’s configurator in BMW’s home market in Germany. You will also notice that the traditional steep gear lever has been replaced by a smaller knob.

The new Dash is powered by the latest version of BMW’s iDrive interface, version 8.0, which we first saw in the 2022 BMW iX. Dash and the interface are slowly filtering across the BMW lineup, just added to the updated 2023 3-Series. We should also see it added to the 2-Series Coupe for 2023 and at some point to the 2-Series Gran Coupe. The design features the 2-Series Active Tourer already sold abroad.
For the new M2, a release at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed in late June is a strong possibility. BMW M is the hallmark of this year’s event for the UK event, and BMW has announced that it will have something to show us. The event runs June 23-26.
Look for the M2 to run a dated version of the latest 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-6 found on the M3 and M4. Peak power should be around 400 hp, which is significantly higher than the last M2’s 365 hp. A Spicer M2 contest should also be available at launch. Transmission options should include a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is a given, although we can see that all-wheel drive is provided, as in the case of M3 and M4.
