The 2023 Peugeot 408 crossover was teased a week before its release

Upcoming Peugeot 408 The ‘coupe SUV’, which apparently blurs the distinction between crossovers and liftbacks, has been teased again before being confirmed for worldwide release on June 22.

Once launched, it will compete with fellow Stellantis rivals Citroen C4, as well as Renault Arcana.

Creating a recent teaser image showing the front grille, Peugeot uploaded two cropped images of a disguised 408 prototype showing the front and rear.

It’s hard to say exactly what design features the Peugeot 408 will have, but it does seem to have a ‘clo effect’, a sign of daylight and a steep rear window.

Describes the Peugeot 408 as a “dynamic fastback saloon with advanced body and big wheels”. It is claimed to have a “cat location” known throughout the range.

Despite the subtleties on Peugeot’s side to show the 408’s parts in isolation, we already know what it looks like from the outside for a spy prototype.

While it may have its own badge, the Peugeot 408 is basically a high-riding tech on top of the 308 hatchback.

It is believed to be built on the same EMP2 platform, and may be offered with the same range of petrol and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains.

As it has not yet been released, the 408 Cross has not been locked for Australia. 308 on which, however, will come down.

Peugeot has confirmed that the new generation 308 range will now arrive in the second half of 2022.

Government approval documents show that the 308 range will be available in Alure and GT Sport trim with a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.6-liter turbocharged plug-in hybrid petrol four.

Local prices and specifications have not yet been announced. Peugeot says a full outline of its launch plans will be released soon

Peugeot says it began testing the finer parts and modules of the 408 coupe SUV “more than a year ago”, and claims that the test vehicles have traveled a total of about 1.1 million kilometers “under all possible conditions”.

Prototypes without camouflage have been tested in laboratories and air tunnels, according to Peugeot.

Once the Peugeot 408 is launched, it will complicate the French automaker’s SUV naming scheme, given an x08 name in its traditional car style, where x is a number that indicates the size of the vehicle.

Peugeot’s crossover vehicles, on the other hand, currently adhere to the x008 naming framework, whereas x is a number that determines the size of the vehicle.

It is noteworthy that the Peugeot 408 will be called the 408X in China because there is already a sedan version of the previous generation 308 called the 408.
