Fresh from the Mexican driver’s victory at the Monaco Grand Prix, Red Bull Racing on Tuesday announced the extension of Sergio Perez’s two-year contract.
The deal means Perez will continue to partner with Formula One champion Max Verstappen until 2024. Worstapen has a contract with the Red Bull until 2028.
“I am very proud to be a member of this team and I feel completely at home here now,” Perez said in a statement. “My relationship with Max, on and off the track, is definitely helping us move forward.”

Perez is currently third in the F1 Drivers Championship standings with 110 points after seven races. In addition to winning Monaco, he has won three podium finishes and a pole position at the Saudi Grand Prix.
Perez joined the Red Bulls for the 2021 F1 season, initially in a single-season deal, after being replaced at Racing Point by Sebastian Vettel, before re-branding the team as Aston Martin. He won his first F1 just before signing with the Red Bull at the 2020 Sakhi Grand Prix.
His debut season with the Red Bull included a second win at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and four more podium finishes. He finished fourth in the 2021 Driver’s Championship with 190 points.

Prior to joining Red Bull, Perez had a reputation as a consistent performer who could make the most of low-end cars. He joined Sauber in F1 in 2011, leading 10 podium finishes and a solo Grand Prix singles victory before joining the Red Bull.
The energy-drink-backed team has had a strong 2022 season so far. It is currently leading in the constructor’s position, while Verstapen is leading in the driver’s championship. Red Bull is now building its own power unit instead of the one from its previous partner Honda. The design is similar to the 2021 Power Unit, and the Red Bull is licensed from Honda.
