SSC is looking at an electrified era.
After hitting the company’s Tuatara Hypercar confirmed 295 miles per hour earlier this month, SSC sits down with CEO and founder Jerod Shelby Motor authority And reveals an electrified Tuatara is working.
The electrified model will run a small production and will not be part of the 125 Tuataras (including 25 Tuatara aggressor track cars) produced by the end of 2025.

Development has already begun, although Shelby has not been read to speak on the production timeline but says it is completely independent of the non-electrified Twitter’s production timeline.
The electrified model will have an electric front hub motor, which will create a newer version of Toyota’s all-wheel drive (current models rear-wheel drive), Shelby said.
At the moment, Shelby says it has not been determined whether the electrified model will carry the Tuatara nameplate.

“Electrifying the car will make it a more streamlined car,” Shelby said. The addition of electrification will not be for maximum speed, but will improve other areas of vehicle mobility, including acceleration, trackability and other low-speed features.
Shelby also revealed that the first Tuatara striker will be unveiled at Coyle in August. The unveiled striker set was bought by a celebrity, though Shelby has yet to comment on who the buyer is.
The Tuatara Stiker is a high-downforce version of the regular Tuatara and is basically a body kit upgrade, as opposed to a standalone model. Upgraded aerodynamics include a fixed rear wing that extends to the active rear wing of the Twitter, and a modified diffuser. The front has a new splitter design, dive plane and six van rockers on the side.

Striker models have a 1,000-pound downforce of 160 miles per hour. According to the SSC, the standard Twatara has a 362-pound downforce at the same speed. The design places 45.4% downforce on the front axle and 54.6% on the rear.
Shelby will not comment on how many of the 125 Twitter build slots have been talked about to date.
SSC is planning a new, much larger production facility that will be launched by 2025. It will be used for a second model that Shelby describes as “little brother” to Tuatara. A location is not mentioned, but it could be near Richland, Washington, where the Toyota was built.
