Baby Jeep comes with gas and electric alternatives

A baby jeep slotted under the compact Renegade is coming soon, and a prototype has been spotted.

The new subcompact crossover was previewed in March and confirmed for launch in the first half of 2023, which means we will probably see it landing at dealerships as a 2024 model.

A name has not been announced but Zipster has been rumored in the past.

The prototype is for a model with an internal-combustion engine, although Jeep has confirmed that an electric model is also coming. Stellantis ’off-road brand is serious about electrification and plans to have an electric alternative in all its departments by 2025.

The baby jeep will ride on Stellantis’ CMP platform and will be paired with similar models from the Alfa Romeo and Fiat. The CMP platform is designed for subcompact vehicles and is currently available on crossovers such as the DS3 Crossback and the Opel Mokka, both of which also offer electrical options.

The electric DS3 and Mokka come with a 50-kilowatt-hour battery and a single motor rated at just 136 hp, we see enhanced performance in the Jeep and the planned Alfa Romeo.

There are rumors that Alfa Romeo will be called Branero, and it will be in 2024. The Fiat will probably replace the 500X. All three are expected to be built at a plant in Taichi, Poland.

For other EVs, Jeep will use the dedicated EV platform from Stellantis. The platforms are STLA Small, STLA Medium, STLA Large, and STLA Frame, and they will offer statistics ranging from 300 miles to 500 miles.
