503-hp BMW M3 Touring 2022 Speed Ahead of the Goodwood Festival

BMW’s M3 has finally made the M3 Turing for which wagon lovers have been waiting for decades.

It was released in the UK on Tuesday before its official debut at this week’s 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, and sadly the longroof is not going to the US as the US has already missed the regular BMW 3-Series. Wagon

The M3 Turing has the same features as the M3 sedan, which means power comes from a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6. The M3 Touring has been announced exclusively in the guise of M3 competition and with an 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. This means it misses the 6-speed manual that the M3 sedan can be ordered.

The M3 Competition Spec comes with 503 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. This is enough for a controlled maximum speed of 0-62 mph acceleration in 3.6 seconds, 0-124 mph in 12.9 seconds, and 155 mph (174 mph with available M driver package). The M3 will lap Nürburgring in a time of Touring 7: 35.06, the current record of a production wagon.

Interestingly, the M3 Turing is not the only 3-Series wagon in which the mechanics of the M3 sedan have been replaced. To match the specific rear axle of the M3, the body of the 3-Series Wagon needs to be 3.3 inches long and 3.0 inches wide. Extra bracing was also required due to the long body. The result is that the M3 Turing weighs about 200 pounds more than the sedan, but has the advantage of a generous 53.3 cubic feet of storage (including the rear seats folded). Weight distribution is a standard 50:50.

Another impressive feature is the all-wheel-drive system. It has a sport mode that adds more rear bias and for track use, has the ability to turn off dynamic stability control so that the drive only moves on the rear wheels. Fake 19-inch (front) and 20-inch (rear) wheels are standard and can be specified with track tires as an alternative. Carbon-ceramic brake rotors are also on the list.

The M3 Touring is based on the updated 2023 BMW 3-Series range, which means that the front has got the latest dashboard design with a floating screen for the instrument cluster (12.3 inches) and infotainment hub (14.9 inches), followed by the new version of iDrive 8. . Carbon-fiber bucket seats are available and help save about 21 pounds.

First market delivery begins later this year.

Although this is the first time BMW has launched an M3 wagon, the automaker came close to two decades ago when it made one as part of the third generation M3 range. However, the project never crossed the prototype stage.
