Volkswagen’s much-anticipated Amarok dual-cab is almost ready for launch.
Volkswagen Commercial Design boss Albert-Johann Kirzinger posted a video (below) with the first glimpse of Amarok’s 2023 styling.
It will be released around the same time as the respective Ford Ranger touches Australian showrooms. Amarok will sell for Europe in late 2022 and arrive in Australia in early 2023.
The prominent LEDs look like daytime running lights and more aggressive front end squares than current cars. Based on the shady teaser, Ford Ranger will have plenty to differentiate the new Amarok from Platform-Mate.
This is in line with what we have heard from VW, which has previously promised that it will pack “real Volkswagen DNA” when it launches.
“This car is something our designers in both Melbourne and Europe have been working tirelessly over the last few years to bring a car that we know is the ultimate in Volkswagen,” said Ryan Davis, Australia’s national sales manager for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
The new Amarok V6 will offer the same power as the current car. Unlike the current car, however, the V6 turbo-diesel engine will be supplied by Ford.
In the Ranger, the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine produces 184kW of power and 600Nm of torque. It is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, along with a full-time four-wheel drive system.
Volkswagen’s current Amarok flagship, the W580, generates 190kW and 580Nm from its 3.0-liter displacement.

Developed by teams from Australia and Europe, the latest version of the so-called ute will be produced in the future in Silverton, South Africa. The current model has been assembled in Argentina, and the Ranger will continue to come from Thailand, in contrast.
The Volkswagen Commercial promises new-to-segment driver-assist features, superior off-road capabilities, a more comfortable and premium interior, and a remarkable body design re-skin.
