Electric car startup NeoTesla has unveiled its latest electric SUV in northern China ES7.
The electric SUV offers a choice of 75kWh, 100kWh and 150kWh batteries, with claimed ranges under liberal CLTC cycles of 485km, 620km and 930km, respectively.
For a total system output of 480kW and 850Nm, it has a dual-motor all-wheel drive system with a 180kW front-mounted motor and a 300kW rear motor.
The company claims that the 0-100km / h time is about 3.9 seconds and a 50/50 weight distribution, the body of which is made of aluminum and carbon fiber.
All ES7 models have double wishbone front and multi-link rear air suspension with continuous damping control, adjustable up to 90mm, as well as 21-inch Pirelli P Zero tires and Brembo four-piston front brake caliper.
It will be available with an electric towing bar, Nio demands a maximum of 2000 kg towing capacity
Nio also offers car-to-load (V2L) functionality, which allows you to get smaller devices. This technology has also been introduced in EVs like Hyundai Ioniq 5.
The five-seater ES7 2960mm wheelbase is 4912mm long, 1987mm wide and 1720mm long.
It slots it between Nio’s ES6 and ES8 SUVs and puts it nicely between the 4751mm-tall Tesla Model Y and the 5036mm-tall Model X sizes.
It features Neo’s newly redesigned language, first seen on the Tesla Model 3-Rival ET5 and features a slim “double dash” LED with a smooth “shark nose” running daylight and an array of sensors above the windscreen.
The drag coefficient is as low as 0.263.
Inside, there’s an “S-shaped” instrument panel with a 12.8-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and a weird NOMI virtual assistant unit on top of the dash.
Neo said its vision for the ES7’s interior was a “second living room”. Durable cane trim has widespread use, as well as a 23-speaker, 1000W 7.1.4 Dolby Atoms surround-sound system and 256-color “digital waterfall” ambient lighting.
The front seats have heating, ventilation and massage functions, while the rear seats are heated and have a power-adjustable seat.
Nappa is given leather upholstery, tanned with coffee peel. Available in black, white and brown interior colourways.
Perhaps the most notable party trick in ES7’s interior is its standard PanoCinema, an augmented / virtual reality-compatible “digital cockpit”.
If you wear specially advanced AR glasses, Nio says you’ll be able to see a 201-inch display at a distance of 6m.
The company says it has built the ES7 to achieve a five-star Euro NCAP rating
Neo said the ES7’s suite of active safety and driver assistance features will “gradually acquire” an autonomous driving experience in situations such as highways, urban driving, parking and battery switching.
The car has 33 high-performance sensing units, including a camera, radar, sensors and an ultra-range LIDAR unit.
Standard safety equipment includes autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, lane centering, adaptive cruise control and front and rear cross-traffic assistance.
Chinese delivery of the ES7 will begin in August 2022.
Prices start at RMB 468,000 (A $ 99,263) before subsidy.
The Nio allows Chinese buyers access to its 1,000-battery swapping station, a feature it has begun to introduce in Europe.
The company offers its cars as Battery-Ass-A-Service (BaaS). This means you will basically buy a car without a battery and pay a monthly subscription fee instead.
Doing so reduces the base price of ES7 to RMB 398,000 before the subsidy (A $ 84,416).
This allows you to use its network of battery-swapping stations in China It is expected to reach more than 1,300 by the end of 2022 in China, including 6,000 power chargers and 10,000 destination chargers.
It is doing the same in European markets, offering a monthly subscription where owners can drive their Nio car to a swap station while they are running on a low charge.
The first battery switching station outside China opened in Norway earlier this year.
Founded in 2018, Nio built its 200,000th car earlier this year.
Launched in Norway late last year, it plans to enter Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark.
Nio’s range includes: ET5 and ET7 sedans; EC6 coupe SUV; And ES6, ES7 and ES8 SUVs.
Now publicly listed on the NYSE, Nio claims to have about 7,000 employees and an estimated market capitalization of 31.05 billion.
Headquartered in Shanghai, the company now has worldwide operations, including a design center in Munich, an ‘advanced research and innovation’ center in San Jose (Silicon Valley) and an engineering research and development center in Oxford, UK.
